Raga Bjarnadottir, PhD, MPH

Bjarnadottir’s research focuses on leveraging health informatics and data science to improve health care quality for underserved populations. In her current research, Bjarnadottir uses text-mining methods to identify factors associated with risk of patient falls in acute care nurses’ progress notes.

Carrington’s research focuses on nurse to nurse communication of a clinical event or change in patient condition using the electronic health record. She uses techniques in qualitative research and natural language processing to analyze nurse to nurse communication and decision-making associated with a clinical event.

Hwayoung Cho, PhD, RN

Cho’s research has focused on using technology for underserved populations in order to reduce health disparities, promote health outcomes and improve health-related quality of life. Her research work focuses on translating existing health information into informatics tools such as mobile health interventions to facilitate the implementation and dissemination of evidence-based health information for underserved communities, specifically racial and ethnic minorities and those from low-socioeconomic groups who face barriers to accessing health information.

Gail Keenan, PhD, RN, FAAN

Keenan is an international leader in nursing informatics whose work has helped improve electronic communications among health care teams. Her research program focuses on continuously refining a “big picture” standardized clinical data set to provide a summary of patient care, support day-to-day communication between members of the care team and universalize electronic health records.

Tamara Macieira, PhD, RN

Macieira is an expert in nursing informatics, standardized terminologies and data science, with experience in applying machine learning methods in research on aging, mainly the impact of nursing care on patient outcomes for cognitively impaired older adults. Throughout her career, she has examined the impact of nursing care on patient outcomes for populations with life-limiting chronic conditions (e.g., older adults, critically ill inpatients) through the analysis of nursing data retrieved from electronic health records (EHRs) from diverse health settings.

Anna McDaniel, PhD, RN, FAAN

Dean of the UF College of Nursing, McDaniel’s research has been characterized by the innovative use of information technology to enhance decision-making by clinicians and to promote positive health behaviors in consumers. Her history of funded research focuses on cancer control, from prevention (tobacco prevention and cessation) through survivorship (symptom management).

Lisiane Pruinelli, PhD, MS, RN, FAMIA

Pruinelli is a nursing informatician with more than 10 years of clinical experience in multi-transplant organ coordination and information systems development and implementation. She applies machine learning methods to longitudinal heterogeneous clinical data to investigate the trajectory of complex disease conditions and health outcomes. Her work aims to identify problems and target interventions toward better patient outcomes.
