The pediatric primary care nurse practitioner is an advanced practice registered nurse who provides health care to children from birth through 21 years of age and, in specific situations, to individuals older than 21. Pediatric primary care nurse practitioners provide comprehensive health care to children through assessment, diagnosis, management, and care evaluation. Pediatric primary care nurse practitioners provide a wide range of pediatric health care services in various health care settings.
The pediatric primary care nurse practitioner clinical track prepares nurses for careers in primary care delivery to children within a family context. Pediatric primary care nurse practitioners provide parents and children health promotion and maintenance services. They provide health assessment and diagnosis, well-child care, intervention for common childhood health problems, management of chronic problems, and referral and collaboration to manage medical problems. Students have experiences in various clinical settings, both rural and urban, and deliver a broad spectrum of care to children.
Pediatric primary care nurse practitioners are eligible for national certification through the National Certification Board of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (PNCB).

Progression in advanced practice nursing tracks requires supervised and precepted experience in specialized clinical settings throughout the semester in Florida. Students admitted to advanced practice nursing tracks are advised that they may be required to travel to clinical sites within Florida for these experiences. If unable to do so, progress in the curriculum will be delayed.
